An up-and-coming chef and a recent divorcee find their lives changed forever when a chance encounter brings them together in a decade-long, deeply moving romance. I saw this at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. John Crowley creates a simple and predictable romantic story that isn’t reallyspecial, but still captures a beautiful performance with two strong performances from Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh. Frankly, sometimes we have to enjoy simple cheesy romance and We Live in Time checkbook cheesy elements together pretty well. With good music, simple dialogues and structure, it still maintains an emotional connection with its viewers as the chemistry and banter between the two leads is watchable and good. Obviously, due to its predictable style, it feels a bit long in its pace and certain elements may make you doze off, but overall Crowley’s direction and Garfield and Pugh’s performance kept it going.
